A final wound review before the return flight can help reduce avoidable problems during travel after surgery or a procedure. This does not replace the treating surgeon’s plan; it supports correct implementation of existing dressing and aftercare instructions.
Information that makes coordination easier
Dressing care can include observation of the wound, drainage, odour, surrounding redness or swelling and changes in pain. If a drain is present, amount and appearance should be followed according to the surgeon’s instructions. Appropriate sterile technique and materials are important.
Safe assessment and the next step
The patient should know whether a dressing change may be needed during travel, which supplies belong in hand luggage and where follow-up will occur after arrival.
Fever, rapidly increasing redness, purulent discharge, wound separation, active bleeding or marked deterioration requires surgeon or physician assessment rather than simply changing the dressing and flying.
If suture or drain removal is planned, timing should follow the treating team’s recommendation. It should not be moved earlier solely to fit a flight schedule.
Carry the operative summary, wound-care instructions, product details and surgeon contact information for continuity of care at the destination.
Medi Guest Istanbul can coordinate hotel wound care, nursing visits, clinic transfer and pre-flight aftercare planning.
