For assessment, share the frequency of vomiting or diarrhea, ability to drink fluids, urine output, fever, abdominal pain, blood in stool, age, chronic conditions and current medication.

IV fluid is not an automatic “quick fix.” Clinical assessment should come first; fluids or other treatment should only be provided when medically appropriate and determined by a healthcare professional.
Fainting, marked confusion, severe weakness, blood in vomit or stool, severe abdominal pain, very low urine output, serious breathing difficulty or rapid deterioration requires urgent assessment.
