A person travelling with a patient may have a role that goes beyond simply being present. A non-medical companion can provide logistical and personal support, while a medical escort can monitor clinical status, follow a medication plan, assess vital signs and respond professionally if the patient deteriorates.
Information that makes coordination easier
The choice between doctor, paramedic or nurse accompaniment depends on the patient’s clinical needs. A stable low-risk traveller may be appropriately supported by a nurse or paramedic, while more complex cases may require physician escort. Flight duration alone does not determine the level of staff.
Safe assessment and the next step
The escort plan can begin with collection from the hotel or hospital and continue through airport procedures, onboard monitoring, connections and handover at the destination. Ground ambulances at either end can be added when needed.
Medical equipment and medicines carried by the escort must comply with airline and security requirements. Oxygen, monitor/defibrillator use or other devices should be agreed with the carrier in advance.
A medical escort does not automatically make a clinically unfit passenger fit to fly. Fit-to-Fly assessment and airline acceptance remain separate steps.
For planning, provide the current medical report, medication list, mobility status, oxygen needs, flight/PNR and destination handover details.
Medi Guest Istanbul can coordinate doctor, paramedic or nurse escort on scheduled flights from Istanbul together with connected transfers.
