Losing or running out of a regular medicine while travelling can be stressful, particularly for people with chronic conditions. The first step is to identify the medicine, active ingredient, dose and schedule as accurately as possible.
Information that makes coordination easier
Brand names may differ between countries. Choosing an apparent equivalent based only on packaging or a similar name is unsafe. A previous prescription, a photo of the box or a medication list from the home clinician can be very helpful.
Safe assessment and the next step
Some medicines cannot be supplied without a prescription in Türkiye and may be regulated differently. When needed, a physician assessment can support an appropriate local prescription. Controlled medicines may be subject to stricter rules.
If several doses have been missed, do not automatically take extra doses. Individual advice is particularly important for insulin, anticoagulants, anti-seizure medicines, steroids and cardiac medications.
Allergies, other medical conditions and concurrent medicines should be considered for interactions. When a different brand contains the same active ingredient, dose equivalence still needs confirmation.
If the return flight is close, the quantity required, transport/storage conditions and any prescription or doctor letter for travel should be included in the plan.
Medi Guest Istanbul can coordinate physician review, prescription and medication supply for international guests through its 24/7 contact line.
